Hello, everybody! For this small series I will review the Shaltari army list I used at the Dropzone Commander tournament at Wexio 2014. The articles discusses the initial thought process followed by an evaluation and a final judgement on a battle group per battle group basis. Last this will be followed by some comments of the army list’s battle group composition and what I consider its strengths and weaknesses.

So now I have had the chance to soak up the information from our Swedish tournament and write down my conlcusions. I thought to write down the idea, the set-up we used and the result. then I will try to modify that into a new set of rules for tournaments.

In the second part and last part of Jens’ report we go through his five games in the largest tournament in Sweden to date;

Arriving on Friday afternoon I was greeted by the organisers and was given a warm welcome. I played a short introduction game against UCM to get a feel for my army list and followed up asking a lot of questions trying to be as ready as I could be for the battles to come next morning.

A short while ago we had the second tournament in Sweden adding up to 8 players. Might not seem so impressive but it is double the amount since last tournament. My thoughts will be published soon enough so people can evaluate and steal ideas. But meanwhile – the furthest traveled participant, Jens, has written a good report of this event and I have begged over and over to allow it be released here on the blog. Some days ago he agreed and allowed me to include pictures on jis awesome army as well so here it is – enjoy:

Jens army is most likely the best looking army in Sweden to date/Egge

A sunny afternoon on the fourth of July I drove through the heart of Småland, Sweden, full of anticipation heading for Wexio 2014 and the second Dropzone Commander tournament in Sweden. Wexio 2014 would become my first real experience of Dropzone Commander and miniature wargaming tournaments. With a big smile on my lips I went through the game plan in the car on the way down. The tournament outline was five rounds, played over two days, with random scenarios on 4’x4’ tables, scenarios could be modified with variants randomly decided, and a total of eight contenders had signed up. The following scenarios were in the mix; Targets of Opportunity, Recon, Land Grab and Encroachment. The variants were; no special rules, all buildings are armour 8 or five of the buildings are bunkers. The variety of the eventual battlefield encouraged participants to pick an army list which could handle all of these contingencies. I felt ready. I was not.

The Swedish championship in Dropzone commander at LinCon 2014

Though most likely not many will participate in the first Dropzone Commander we now have official permission to hold the first Swedish Championship in Dropzone Commander! Lincon is this year in Linköping, Sweden from 2014-05-29 to 2014-06-01. We will hold a beginners tournament day 2 (2014-05-30) of the event (999 skirmish – no command cards will be used). The official Swedish championship will be held day 3 (1500 pts clash and 2014-05-31) with 3 games per tournament.

If you like to come from another country to rule Sweden and help us motivate people to play the game, the arrangement is about 38€ for all days and you are able to sleep there (just bring something to sleep on). We will ask for a token cost of 6€ for some simple prices for each tournament (so 12€ for both).

On the beginners tournament me and Snolb will have each an army to lend to anyone who wish to play. We will also play very long games to ensure beginners get to play with time to spare.

The Championship will still have plenty of time (3 hours per game) and will be a single day event.

Me and Snolb will not be able to win any prices and the Champion will be the highest placed player which isn’t us.
