So… Random mission generator 2.0 Tournament style

Posted: 12 June, 2014 by egges in Dropzone commander, For tournament organizers, Missions, Tournaments

With Sweden’s second tournament we are going to use a version of my original random mission generator. I will also include it in a Power point on two pages to make sure that if you can print on double sides you can have it on a single paper.

The generator consist of several rolls on charts to get the mission that should be played. The rolls are as following:

1. Select mission.
2. Select type of deployment.
3. Roll for if using the Variant mission (only for Targets of Opportunity or Land Grab mission as either primary or secondary objective).
4. Roll for special rules.
1. Select mission.

Each player inform the other player which mission he played the last time (or round if in a tournament). If a Primary mission is rolled and one player has played it in the last previous round he can now decide that will not be a primary mission – re-roll until you get a different result for Primary mission. This mission can in no way be primary mission this round.

This means it might be two missions not being valid as primary mission this round. One for each player.

If you are not getting a Secondary Mission from the chart below Always use KP as a Secondary Mission.

Result:
1. Target’s of opportunity.
2. Recon.
3. Encroachment.
4. Land Grab
5-6. Randomly select 2 missions of the four available on this chart. First is Primary Mission and the next result will be the Secondary mission. Same mission can not be both Primary and Secondary.

2. Select type of deployment.

Result:
1. Deployment as in Land Grab. In Targets of Opportunity, the players must select the corners furthest away from the objectives. In Encroachment the line for the middle is the diagonal between the neutral corners.
2. Deployment as in Encroachment.
3-6: Deployment as in Recon.

3. Variant used? (Target’s of Opportunity and Land Grab only)

1-4: Not used.
5-6: The “Variant” version of the mission in the rulebook is used. For Land Grab use the mission Targets of Opportunities’ VP chart.

4. Roll for Special rules.

1-3: No special rules.
4: Each player select 2 buildings on the center line or in enemy half of the table. That building is a bunker and can not be damaged. Choose buildings on or within 4” of objectives or information or focal points first.
4: Each player select 2 buildings on center line or in enemy half of the table. Chosen buildings have armour 8. Choose buildings on or within 4” of objectives or information or focal points first.
6. Each player may Direct Deploy one squad of vehicles up to 12″ from their deployment zone’s edges even though it has a Dropship. The unit’s Dropship start in Readiness as normal.

See complicated chart below.
KP diff Recon and Land grab (normal version) VP diff Targets of Opportunities, Encroachment and Land Grab (variant) VP diff Result Primary Mission Result secondary Mission
0-200 0 0 8-8 3-3
201-400 2 1 10-6 4-2
401-600 4 2 12-4 5-1
601-800 6 3 14-2 6-0
8 4 16-0

Since it is easy to forget I have also constructed the following chart:

Battle no 1 2 3 4 5
Primary mission 1. Targets of Opportunity
2. Land Grab
3. Recon
4. Encroachment
Secondary mission 1. Targets of Opportunity
2. Land Grab
3. Recon
4. Encroachment
KP (if not any of the above)
Deployment Corner 12″ in (Land Grab)
12″ in (Encroachment)
Readiness (Recon)
Special Rule None
Bunkers
Armoured buildings
Direct deploy extra squad
Variant No
Yes for Land Grab
Yes for Targets of Opportunity

I’m a bit scared that it becomes complicated too fast. I’m thinking that I could remove the secondary mission and only use KP…  But with the memory chart above I think it is sensible though. Then you only need to refer to the text when in doubt…
